Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week - Day 4

The wind gods returned on Day 4 at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week for the Gazprom Swan 60 Class, peaking at 12-15 knots it was another good day afloat for Bronenosec (RUS) and SGM (GER). Today’s race course was further afield towards Portsmouth.

Bronenosec (RUS) have a good set of results under their belts, with 2 thirds and 2 fourths on the scoreboard they retain 3rd overall in IRC Class 1. Swan 60 SGM (GER) are working their way up the ladder having put in a notable two 5th places in the last two days. SGM now sit in 5th position overall.

It has been an interesting week for the navigators in the Gazprom Swan 60 fleet, a baptism of fire into the world of long courses with around 17 marks per day to navigate the team round.

Francesco Mongelli from Rome is navigator on board Bronenosec (RUS), having grown up racing big boats Francesco found that his software career sat naturally with the role of navigator.

“This is a massive change to the World Championship style of courses, it is special I like it, a real challenge. It is so unique because of the marks in the course and the tides, at the end of the day the mind is definitely satisfied. One of the most interesting tasks is to advise on the lay lines”.
